Smart Agri Technology set to take centre stage in Nairobi next month
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has tasked farmers across the world to increase food production by 70% to feed the world’s mushrooming population.
CAPE TOWN, WESTERN CAPE, SOUTH AFRICA, February 19, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ -- The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has tasked farmers across the world to increase food production by 70% to feed the world’s mushrooming population. To meet this target and the demand, farmers must address a number of challenges such as water shortages due to climate change and poor farming practices that have eroded overall farm productivity.
The African Agri Council (AAC) is optimistic that a secure food future is achievable in Africa with smart agriculture technology and practices. “We must simply learn to produce more with less while meeting global quality standards.” says Ben Leyka, the Executive Director for the African Agri Council. As such, the Council is hosting the Smart Agri Congress Africa (SACA) 2018, taking place on 27 - 28 March 2018 at the dusitD2 Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya. “SACA provides a global platform that combines the latest smart and innovative technology and agriculture. The delegation will have access to the latest technology and research in technological advancements in African agriculture.”
“Data is a key ingredient to optimising food production – the new gold of agriculture” says Dr. Theo de Jager, President of the World Farmers Association, who will be addressing the delegation in Nairobi on smart agriculture opportunities for individuals, agribusinesses and Government. The WFO is an organization of agricultural producers that aims to strengthen farmer’s positions within value chains, with a particular focus on smallholder farmers.
