Stephanie G. Adams, dean of the Frank Batten College of Engineering and Technology at Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Va., was named president-elect of the American Society of Engineering Education, to become president in June 2019. Adams was an engineering department head at Virginia Tech, an associate dean at Virginia Commonwealth University and a former board member of the National Society of Black Engineers. ASEE has more than 12,000 academic and other members and represents more than 400 colleges and universities.


The U.S. Air Force on March 9 named Col. John J. Allen director of civil engineering and deputy chief of staff for logistics, installations and force protection. He succeeds Maj. Gen. Timothy S. Green, who held those positions since 2014. Allen has been staff director for the Air Force Material Command at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio. The Senate on March 1 confirmed his nomination to brigadier general.


Transportation design firm COWI North America, North Vancouver, British Columbia, named Simon Kim as CEO. Formerly an AECOM senior vice president, he replaces Steven Hunt, who left COWI in April 2017 to become CEO of North Vancouver-based Carlson Construction Group. Kim is a director of the American Council of Engineering Cos. of California, Bay Bridge chapter.


The Georgia Tech College of Engineering has elevated Donald Webster chair of its civil and environmental engineering school, effective on May 1. He now is a professor and school associate chair for finance and administration. The university says the school is one of the largest U.S. civil and environmental engineering programs, with more than 1,100 students and 50 faculty members.


Engineer-program manager Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam Inc. (LAN) has named Wayne Swafford president. He succeeds Dennis Peterson, who remains president of its parent, designer LEO A DALY. Formerly executive vice president since 2017, Swafford also had been vice president of facility operations at Kaiser Foundation Health Plan Inc. and an AECOM senior vice president. He is based in Houston. 

Kansas City-based employment firm LaborMax Staffing has named Tony Shine as CEO. In that role, he succeeds company co-founder Mike Ingham. Shine, a former area vice president, has been a LaborMax owner since 2012, says his Linked-In profile.  The company says it reported $100 million in 2017 revenue, which is set rise to $130 million this year.
