Norfolk Southern seeks applicants for safety, 'thriving communities' grants

Norfolk Southern Railway is soliciting applications from tax-exempt nonprofit organizations and government entities for its Safety First and Thriving Communities grant programs.

Safety First grants go up to $15,000 to fund organizations that promote safe behavior. Thriving Communities grants go up to $50,000 for organizations that create vibrant communities and provide access to basic life necessities.

Eligible organizations are those that "align with the pillars of Norfolk Southern’s community impact program: safety, sustainability, workforce development, and thriving communities," NS officials said in a press release. 

In 2024, NS provided over $6.3 million to more than 400 organizations across 250 cities where the railroad operates.
