Pirate School: Sea Dreams

“Pirate School: Sea Dreams,” a fun show for the whole family, is at 7 p.m. this Thursday, March 13 in the Deane Center for the Performing Arts at 104 Main St., Wellsboro.

Included in “Pirate School: Sea Dreams,” a riotous, interactive variety show suitable for all ages, are: magic, eye-popping puppetry, slapstick sword play, bubble-play, booming cannons, lively audience participation, and a rich score of music and cartoon-like sound effects. Where else can the young and the young at heart participate in a sea battle, or find a talking skull and the world’s only wearable pirate ship.

Pirate Professor Billy Bones played by David Engel teaches zany lessons on how to stand, talk, sing and laugh like a pirate and the finer points of lighthearted mischief all while promoting good manners, polite behavior and social courage.

Engel is an actor with years of stage and screen experience. For 13 years, he also worked as a clown doctor bringing stress-reducing humor to pediatric hospitals with the Big Apple Circus’ world-renowned in-hospital Clown Care Program. Engel continues to offer outreach at pediatric hospitals and sensory sensitive shows.

The show’s run time is 60 minutes without intermission. Children are encouraged to wear pirate costumes.

Tickets are free for youngsters ages 2 and under; $10 for children ages 3 to 12 and $15 for those 13 and older, including adults. “Pirate School: Sea Dreams” is partially sponsored by the Hamilton-Gibson Women’s Project, which is holding auditions for its production of “How I Became a Pirate,” a whimsical and fun musical for all ages. Audition dates in the Warehouse Theatre Gallery at 3 Central Ave., Wellsboro are this Friday, March 14 at 6:30 p.m., this Saturday, March 15 at 10:30 a.m. and next Saturday, March 22 at 10:30 a.m. Performances will be held during Laurel Festival on June 19, 20, 21 and 22 at the Warehouse Theatre. Females are being cast as the seven singing and dancing pirates and a girl who is 10 to 12 to play the central role of Jennifer Jacob.
