PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic — Fairmont native William McGirt birdied three of his final four holes Friday to make the cut at the PGA Tour’s Corales Puntacana Championship.

McGirt shot a 3-under-par 69 in Friday’s second round after a 1-under 71 to open the event on Thursday. He is currently tied for 55th.

Finishing his round on the front nine, McGirt birdied the par-4 sixth, par-5 seventh and par-3 ninth to go from three strokes outside the cut line to in on the number.

McGirt birdied two of his first three holes after starting on the 10th hole Friday, but made three bogeys through the middle of the round to fall to even par for the day through 14 holes before his strong finish.

McGirt and Sam Ryder will tee off at 7:15 a.m. ET in the third round on Saturday.

The Corales Puntacana Championship is an alternate event played simultaneously to the RBC Heritage, which has a stronger field and awards more FedExCup points and prize money.

McGirt is playing the 2024 PGA Tour season with conditional status, and this is his second start of the season. He missed the cut in the Puerto Rico open in early March, but Friday made the seventh cut in his last eight Tour starts dating back to July 2023.

Wesley Bryan leads the Corales Puntacana Championship at 15 under par, one stroke ahead of Justin Lower. Greyson Sigg is third at 11 under par, with Bill Haas, Kevin Tway, Charley Hoffman and Pierceson Coody tied for fourth at 10 under, five strokes behind Bryan.
