Each carrier service has its own website to track packages that you order from them. However, FedEx is looking to unify everything and bring all of the package tracking numbers under one app. The company is rolling out the FedEx Mobile Beta to help you track packages from other carriers, according to 9to5Google.
As you can imagine, the FedEx app is specifically built to track FedEx packages; the UPS app is built for tracking UPS packages. However, we saw a leak earlier this year about a feature called Crosstrack in the FedEx app.
Supposedly, this feature will allow you to track packages from other carrier as well. Sure, that may sound strange, but there are services out there that track packages from other services like Shop. However, we can’t deny that this being a FedEx service will probably put some of those other services out of business.
The FedEx Mobile Beta is rolling out now
We haven’t heard much about this feature since the previous leak, but it seems that FedEx is looking to move forward with it. Moving forward with it involves giving it a new name. Instead of being called Crosstrack, it seems that FedEx is calling it the FedEx Mobile Beta.
We have some leaked screenshots of the feature, and it looks to be pretty simple. The example phones used almost look like that of a Pixel 7 Pro, so you can tell that it’s coming to Android.
On the left side, we see a basic search UI with the ability to scan a barcode to get a tracking number. Also, you can just paste the tracking number into the search bar.
Under the search bar, we see several packages that are pending delivery. In each entry, you’ll see the status of the delivery and the vendor that sold it. So, we see packages from both Amazon and Walmart.
The right side of the screenshot shows more information on an individual package. You’ll see the status of the delivery, when it is going to arrive, and which carrier it’s coming from. However, a lot of the other information has been blurred out.
The FedEx Mobile Beta is rolling out now to select users. We’re not sure how widespread this beta is, but if you want to check to see if you have it, simply go to the FedEx app. You should see a pop-up letting you know that you have the feature.
Just so you know, the future will require permission to access your Google or Outlook account. This is most likely so the app can access the tracking numbers from your confirmation emails.
