Alsip police Tuesday were able to disarm a man who was running in and out of traffic on Pulaski Road with a gun.
No one was injured and the man, whom police did not identify, is being held at Christ Hospital for medical evaluation, according to the Alsip Police Department. The incident remains under investigation.
Police were called to the 11600 block of Pulaski Road at 9:18 a.m. Tuesday following reports of a shirtless man holding a weapon. Police said the man approached one witness screaming “call the police, call the police!”
When police arrived, the man ran north on Pulaski. Oak Lawn police assisted in chasing him. When an officer located the man at 111th and Pulaski Road, the man continued to wave the gun and pointed it at responding officers, who commanded him to drop the weapon, police said.
The man ignored the command, pointed the weapon at his head, police said. He then continued north on Pulaski, but stumbled on a median and an Alsip officer was able to wrestle him to the ground as another officer disarmed him, police said.
No charges have been filed, and the man had a valid firearm owner identification card and a conceal carry license, police said.
Alsip police also said one of its officers fired a round during the incident, and received outpatient care at Palos Hospital.
