Boeing has poached Qantas’ CIO Susan Doniz to take up the same position at the planemaker.

Based at the company’s headquarters in Chicago, Doniz will oversee all aspects of IT and cyber security, as well as supporting revenue growth through data collection and analytics programs.

“Susan is a proven, customer-focused technology leader with extensive global experience across multiple industries, including commercial aviation,” said Boeing president and CEO David Calhoun.

“She brings deep insight and skills to digital transformation, data analytics and artificial intelligence – all essential to our long-term growth strategy as well as our continuous drive for operational and safety excellence.”

Doniz served as Qantas’ group CIO from January 2017, and at Boeing will the CIO and senior VP of information technology and data analytics.

The Canadian-born executive has more than 25 years of technology leadership experience, including at SAP, Aimia and Procter & Gamble.

She also holds a bachelor’s degree in applied science and engineering from the University of Toronto and serves as vice-chair of the International Air Transport Association’s Digital Transformation Advisory Council.

Doniz will succeed Vishwa Uddanwadiker, who has held the position in an interim capacity since October 2019. The handover is scheduled for May 2020.

“I’d also like to thank Vishwa for stepping in to take on this assignment during an important time for Boeing and for his support during this transition,” said Calhoun.

“Vishwa demonstrated tremendous leadership, and we look forward to his continued significant contributions to the company.”
