Freight Forwarders have lamented over the poor implementation of the paperless system at the port.

The freight forwarders say the system has not improved transactions at the ports especially as paperwork continues to dominate their transactions.

The paperless system which has been in operation since September last year (2017), is among others expected to reduce face to face transactions, paper works and also eliminate corruption at the ports.

But in an interview with Citi Business News, the President of the Freight Forwarders Association, Kwabena Ofosu Appiah called for a swift review of the system.

“The paperless is not going as planned that is why we are calling for a quick and swift review. We are just calling for a situation where the situation will be quickly reviewed,” he revealed.

Mr. Appiah added that “This should not take too much of time because we know where the shortfalls are and I am sure the network providers will put in place structures that will fulfil the blueprint on the policy. But as we speak, what the Vice President wanted to happen on the ground is not what is happening hundred percent and it must be looked into by government”.

The Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) had rejected claims by some business operators at the ports over the resumption of the manual clearing system.

This was after some clearing agents and freight forwarders expressed grave concern over the delay in the clearing process.
