Caracas, May 31 (RHC)-- The government of the Bolivarian republic of Venezuela has sent 12 tons of humanitarian aid to Cuba, in the wake of damage caused to the Caribbean island state by subtropical storm Alberto.

In statements to reporters at the international airport in Maiquetía, where the aid was being loaded for transport to the island Thursday afternoon, Venezuelan minister of interior and justice Néstor Reverol said the cargo consisted of food items, mattresses and other inputs.

On behalf of the Cuban government and people, Cuban ambassador to the South American nation Rogelio Polanco thanked the Venezuelan government and people for this latest gesture of solidarity.
