Klaipeda port's cargo traffic in November hits new record high
"We have a unique record: we crossed the 4-million-ton monthly mark
for the first time. This is a big jump compared with 3.5 million tons we
handled a year ago," Arvydas
Vaitkus said at a news conference.
The port handled a total of 39.219 million tons of cargo in January through
November 2017, up 6.5% from 36.815 million tons in the same period last year.
In November alone, cargo volumes rose by 16.2% year-on-year to 4.096 million
tons.
"We had poor weather in October and November, and it was difficult to
handle fertilizers and grain on individual days. We have 6.5% growth for eleven
months, which puts us on track to achieving a new annual record," he
added.
According to the CEO, annual cargo traffic at the port is expected to total
42 million tons this year.
Klaipeda port posted a net profit of 25.356 million euros for three
quarters of this year, up 0.3% from 25.3 million euros in the same period last
year.
Total revenue increased by an annual 4.4% to 44.262 million euros, the port
authority said in its performance report for the three quarters.
Revenue from port dues rose by 4.3% to 38.623 million euros and revenue
from land fees went up by 4.6% to 5.519 million euros.
